About visiting Sherrod Library on the campus of East Tennessee State University

Librarians are unable to provide extensive personal service to genealogical researchers, but they can aid in locating specific items within the library or in identifying electronic sources. That is the purpose of this guide.

Plan your visit before coming to campus. Please keep these items in mind:

  1. You must have a parking permit to park on campus. Read about our visitor parking policy here. This printable map will help you orient your way onto campus and locate the library as well as the Parking Services office (Building 153 on the map).
  2. Whether you have a parking permit or not, locating a parking spot adjacent to the library is easier during evenings, weekends, and the summer. If you have a handicapped parking tag issued by the state of Tennessee you may park in handicapped spaces on campus. Read more about our Disability Parking policy.
  3. Check the library's schedule of hours before you arrive. During the summer Sherrod Library is open limited hours.
  4. If you want to use the Archives of Appalachia or University Archives (a collection of the Archives of Appalachia), be aware that they are always closed on weekends and their operating hours through the week are more limited than the library's.
  5. This map should help you navigate your way to campus from the various I-26 exits serving the city.
